Fine filtration with a system: the vacuum belt filter

Vacuum belt filters are used wherever maximum purity of the cooling lubricant is crucial for success – especially in grinding and machining processes in metalworking. They reliably remove even the finest particles from the medium, thereby ensuring consistently high process quality. The result: extended tool life, maximum machine availability and first-class workpiece surfaces.

Filter/system pumps connected to the lower suction chamber generate a vacuum in the lower chamber and suck the cooling lubricant through the fine-pored filter fabric/fleece. The solids are reliably retained by the filter fabric and the cleaned filtrate is fed back into the production cycle. The filtered dirt cake is discharged discontinuously for chip disposal. Our filter is ideal for production processes with the highest cleanliness requirements – for example in grinding technology or machining. The vacuum belt filter works fully automatically and ensures that the clean filter fabric/fleece is automatically refilled as required. The supply of cooling lubricant from a regeneration tank to production is also ensured during the regeneration phase.

Typical applications

Our vacuum belt filter is a high-performance solution for industrial processes with the highest demands on the purity of cooling lubricants and operational safety. The vacuum belt filter provides a measurable quality and efficiency advantage, particularly in abrasive machining processes, tight production tolerances and high tool wear.

Functionality

The contaminated process medium flows into a sealed filter chamber. Our system creates a vacuum under the clamped filter fabric/fleece by means of the suction effect of the filter system pumps. This suction effect draws the liquid through the filter material, which reliably retains even the finest particles. The filter effect is considerably enhanced by the dirt cake that forms. A pressure sensor in the lower chamber continuously monitors the filtration process. As soon as a defined negative pressure is reached, the vacuum is broken and the automatic belt feed is activated: The saturated filter belt is fed out of the system in sections and fresh filter fabric is drawn in. The separated filter cake is discharged dry and in segments – ready for disposal or recycling. Pressure monitoring is overlaid by time-controlled timing of the regeneration phases.

Top performance in particle separation

Our vacuum belt filter achieves fine filtration down to 30 micrometres and thus removes even microscopically small particles from the cooling medium. This is crucial for production processes with particularly tight tolerances – such as grinding or precision machining.

Increased throughput thanks to negative pressure in the lower chamber

The suction effect of the connected pump(s) is used specifically to create a vacuum in the lower chamber and thus increase the flow rate of the coolant through the filter medium. This leads to accelerated filtration, especially with more viscous media or a higher volume of dirt – while maintaining the same filtration quality.

Two functions, one system

Our vacuum belt filter also functions as a cooling lubricant reservoir and filtration unit. This reduces the number of external components and saves valuable space in the production environment. As the filter pumps that draw in the cooling lubricant also take over the function of the system pumps that supply the production, the costs for pump technology and pipeline construction are also reduced.

Fully automatic continuous operation

The entire filtration process is sensor-controlled and requires no manual intervention. The system monitors the degree of contamination, controls the belt feed, regulates the fleece consumption and ensures consistently high media quality – in 24/7 operation.

Automated belt cleaning

An integrated cleaning mechanism with brush or knocker shaft and targeted belt rinsing removes residues from the filter belt. This cleaning unit works in parallel with the filtration process, prevents efficiency losses and significantly extends the service life of the filter belt used.
