Overview

Coolant filtration systems

Clean coolant for reliable machining

Coolant filtration systems are specialised systems for cleaning emulsions, oils and wash water used in metal-cutting and metal-forming processes. They remove solids, metal fines and fine particles from the process fluid, helping to maintain consistent fluid quality.

This supports effective cooling and lubrication, reduces tool wear and contributes to precise machining results.

Challenge

Challenges in coolant filtration

Effective coolant filtration is essential for extending coolant and tool life and maintaining consistent production quality. Typical challenges include:

➔

Existing filtration systems do not remove fine particles reliably, which can compromise machining and component quality.

➔

Frequently clogged systems require excessive maintenance and can cause unnecessary production downtime.

➔

Standard systems cannot always be integrated effectively into existing processes and production environments.

In Detail

Coolant filtration systems from KÖBO ECO>PROCESS for every filtration requirement

KÖBO ECO>PROCESS develops coolant filtration systems tailored to specific production requirements. Depending on the filter type and system configuration, flow rates from 200 to 30,000 L/min are possible. The filtration rating and system design are individually matched to the coolant, particle load and required fluid cleanliness.

Pressure belt filter

The pressure belt filter is a fully automatic coolant filtration system. Contaminated coolant is pumped into the upper pressure chamber and forced under pressure through a continuous or reversible filter belt or filter fleece. The cleaned coolant flows back into a clean-fluid tank. Before discharge, the retained filter cake is blown dry and then removed automatically.

Vacuum belt filter

The vacuum belt filter continuously cleans the coolant and simultaneously serves as the central collection tank within the coolant circuit. Filter or system pumps create the required vacuum in the lower chamber, drawing the contaminated coolant through the filter medium. The solids remain on the filter belt and are discharged intermittently. During regeneration, a separate regeneration tank maintains the coolant supply to production.

Folding belt filter

The folding belt filter is a compact variant of the pressure belt filter. It is particularly suitable for lower flow rates and for use as a secondary filter in precoat filter systems. The coolant is passed intermittently under pressure through a filter belt or filter fleece. The cleaned coolant flows into a downstream tank, while the filter cake is dried before automatic discharge.

Benefits of coolant filtration systems

Extended coolant service life

Continuous filtration removes particles, wear debris and other contaminants from the coolant. This can extend the service life of the process fluid and reduce the need for frequent coolant and filter-media replacement, lowering both operating costs and waste.

Optimised production processes

Reliable coolant filtration supports consistent fluid quality and reduces friction in cutting, grinding and forming processes. This can improve machine efficiency and the quality of machined components.

Improved heat dissipation and cooling

Clean coolant supports effective heat removal and stable temperature control. This improves machine cooling, helps prevent overheating and contributes to dimensional accuracy and consistent production quality.

Efficient removal of contaminants

Coolant filtration systems remove solid particles and metal fines from the process fluid. This supports consistent coolant quality and precise machining results.

Reduced wear

Regular coolant cleaning reduces the accumulation of dirt and particles that can increase wear on tools and rollers. This can extend tool life and reduce replacement costs.

Resource recovery and recycling

Coolant filtration systems support the treatment of coolants and oils, allowing them to remain in use for longer or to be reused depending on the process requirements. Separated metal chips can also be discharged in a controlled manner and sent for appropriate recycling.
