A chip separator separates coarse metal particles such as steel, cast iron or aluminum chips from contaminated process fluids, usually cooling lubricants (emulsions or oils). The separation principle is based on gravity: the chips settle on the floor in a calm flow zone and are automatically discharged.pre-separation without sedimentation via a slotted screen surface on the floor is also possible, particularly for light, possibly floating chips or where space is very limited.the pre-cleaned liquid then flows into downstream filter units – cleaner, more evenly and without unnecessary wear.

How it works: From the inlet to the clear liquid

A chip separator reliably removes coarse solids such as metal chips from contaminated cooling lubricants. The liquid is fed evenly into the inlet area and flows through a calming zone in which heavy particles settle to the bottom by gravity or are passed through a slotted screen. A conveyor system – such as a scraper conveyor – automatically transports the separated chips out of the system. The pre-cleaned liquid is then either fed to a downstream filter system or returned directly to the production cycle.
