Fine coolant filtration with a vacuum belt filter

Vacuum belt filters are used where a high level of coolant cleanliness is essential, particularly in grinding and machining processes in metalworking. They reliably remove fine solid particles from the fluid and maintain consistently high process quality. This supports longer tool life, high machine availability and high-quality workpiece surfaces.

Reliable particle separation down to 25 µm

Depending on the configuration, the vacuum belt filter achieves filtration fineness down to 25 µm and reliably removes fine solid particles from the coolant. This supports production processes with tight tolerances, particularly grinding and precision machining.

High flow rates through vacuum filtration

The connected filter and system pumps create negative pressure in the lower chamber. This draws the coolant evenly through the filter medium and increases the flow rate, including with more viscous fluids or higher levels of contamination, while maintaining consistent filtration quality.

Two functions in one system

The vacuum belt filter functions both as a coolant reservoir and as a filtration unit. This reduces the number of external components and saves space in the production environment. Because the filter pumps can also supply the production process, the requirements and costs associated with pump technology and piping are reduced.

Fully automatic continuous operation

The filtration process is sensor-controlled and requires virtually no manual intervention. The system monitors the level of contamination, controls the belt feed and regulates the consumption of filter fleece. This maintains consistent fluid quality during continuous operation.

Automated belt cleaning

An integrated cleaning mechanism with a brush or beater shaft and targeted belt rinsing removes residues from the filter belt. This reduces manual cleaning, maintains filtration performance and extends the service life of the filter belt.

Design of the KÖBO ECO>PROCESS vacuum belt filter

Filter and system pumps connected to the lower suction chamber create negative pressure in the lower chamber and draw the coolant through the fine-pored filter fabric or filter fleece. Solid particles are reliably retained by the filter medium, while the cleaned filtrate is returned to the production circuit. The separated filter cake is discharged intermittently for disposal.

The vacuum belt filter is particularly suitable for manufacturing processes with high fluid-cleanliness requirements, including grinding and machining. The filter medium is automatically advanced when required. During the regeneration phase, a separate regeneration tank maintains the supply of coolant to the production process.

Sizes

Standard filter areas range from 3 to 24 m². Custom sizes up to 45 m² are available on request. Smaller filter areas ranging from 0.7 to 1.4 m² are available exclusively for operation with filter fleece.

Structure

How the vacuum belt filter works

The contaminated process fluid enters a sealed filter chamber. The connected filter and system pumps create negative pressure beneath the tensioned filter fabric or filter fleece. This vacuum draws the fluid through the filter medium, which reliably retains fine solid particles. The filter cake that forms on the filter medium further increases the filtration effect. A pressure sensor in the lower chamber continuously monitors the filtration process.

When the defined negative pressure is reached, the vacuum is released and the automatic belt feed is activated. The saturated section of the filter medium is discharged from the system and replaced with fresh filter fabric or filter fleece. The dewatered filter cake is discharged in sections and can then be disposed of or recycled. The regeneration process can additionally be triggered at preset time intervals.
